Wine Culture is Destroying Motherhood

Becoming a mother is a sacred calling. It's a role that will challenge everything you thought you knew about yourself and the world.
Modern motherhood has created a culture that doesn't nurture mothers the way they deserve, and has left many mothers in addiction behaviors because of the lack of support and care of new mothers and how important motherhood is to our planet.
Wine culture is the addiction that has mothers in its grasp as a way of medicating the loneliness and struggle of modern motherhood.
It's easy to call your drinking for recreation,
Because you don't want to admit it's for medication.
What are you trying to run from?
What are you grieving?
What are you numbing?
In modern motherhood culture, it's jokingly normalized to need a drink in order to mother in our society...
But there's nothing normal about that.
Common doesn't mean normal.
If you feel you need to drink in order to get by, there's something deeper that you need to acknowledge.
Those feelings are a signal of your pain and disconnection.
Drinking works.
Because it stops the pain.
But it also destroys your soul connection with your body.
Alcohol will disconnect your soul from the body as you try to escape it.
That's why we often say that alcohol brings out the demons...
Because it literally does that.
It brings out the deepest shadows within you, and some believe it leaves your vessel vulnerable to demonic entity attachment. I'm not sure how I feel about that honestly, but I can certainly see how it could be true.
But let's get down to the reality of modern motherhood...
It doesn't serve us.
To be immersed in the norms of our society will leave you feeling lonely and helpless.
It's a byproduct of this culture.
A culture that doesn't honor women, and mothers and postpartum. And then wonder why so many mothers end up dealing with postpartum depression and alcoholism.
It's a numbing mechanism.
Drinking works.
It disconnects you from the pain you don't want to feel anymore. Even if you don't realize you're running from anything.
Drinking will never serve you.
It is never the pathway to wholeness and wellness.
Never.
What mothers and women truly need is community and sisterhood to lean on, not a bottle of alcohol.
You can join our Facebook Mothers group, WIldly Awakened Motherhood, if you'd like to join our community and circles. There's a lot to come this year in our group such as monthly circles, events and possibly a retreat, either this year or next!
Stay Wild & Awake,
Your Sister, Jess
